Ahmed Rashid is a Pakistani journalist

He based in Lahore, who writes for "The Daily Telegraph (London)", "The Washington Post", "The International Herald Tribune", "The New York Review of Books", "BBC Online", and "The Nation". His previous books include Jihad, Taliban, and The Resurgence of Central Asia. He appears regularly on "NPR", "CNN", and the "BBC World Service".

An article that I wrote for Foreign Affairs magazine in 1999 on the Taliban – which was one of the first articles on the subject to appear in the Western media – has now been reprinted in a new eBook published by the Council of Foreign Relations in new York on the recent conflicts to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of 9/11.

Ahmed Rashid is now on the Board of the Committee to Protect Journalists in New York and has been horrified by the recent deaths of two brave journalists. He is helping his colleagues organize broad support in Pakistan for better protection for journalists and even more important accountability for them when they are picked up and harassed.
